This past weekend we saw Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway travel through time and space in Interstellar as a giant robot kept the Earth safe for another week in Big Hero 6. As we impatiently wait for Jennifer Lawrence’s return, audiences wanted to catch the last warm weekend before the winter sets in. News has been flying out of production studios so let’s get to the latest movie news.

box office1. As always, we start off with the weekend box office. Apparently people only wanted to watch two movies this weekend as Big Hero 6 edged out Interstellar for first place earning $56.2 million. Let’s put that into perspective, last week the top film earned just over $10 million and the top 5 total earned $45 million. More people went and saw Big Hero 6 this weekend than everyone who saw all top 5 films last week. Not to put Interstellar under the bus, Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway earned a solid 2nd place with $47.5 million. Although these two put up over $100 million in sales, 3,4 and 5 didn’t do so well. Gone Girl held on in its 6th week earning $6.2 million and the third spot. Thrillseekers still came out and saw Ouija earning it another $5.8 million and the 4th spot in its third week. Fury rounded out the top 5 adding another $5.6 million in its 4th week. Sadly Jake Gyllenhaal’s thriller Nightcrawler didn’t hold on very well in its 2nd week earning a dismal $5.3 million.

Next week, we see a lull in new movies as Jim Carrey’s sequel Dumb and Dumber Too hits theaters. This weekend promises to be one for everyone to catch up on films they want to go see, so visit your local theater and go see your favorite movie.

star wars episode 7 pic2. For all the space nerds out there, this certainly has been a good week. A new space-time film hit the theaters that is sure to garner a big cult following in Interstellar and we have more Star Wars news. Last week, they finished production of episode 7 and we finally received the title of the long awaited sequel. Episode 7 will officially be called Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. While many people have voiced their disdain for the new title, this film will still see huge numbers when it is released later in 2015. What do you think about the title?

toy story 4 pic3. Apparently Toy Story 4 is happening. Yes, you heard that right… Toy Story 4. Many fans enjoyed the trilogy including me. Last week, official word was released that Pixar was creating a fourth. While many fans may be grumbling because it was a perfect trilogy, many families will be flocking to this animated feature when it is released in 2017. According to an interview done by Cinema Blend, the plot will be a love story. Whose love story, we don’t know but there will certainly be plenty of talk between now and the release of the film, June 16, 2017.

bourne identity pic4. In more rumor mill news, Matt Damon recently let it slip that he will be starring in another Bourne movie. After Jeremy Renner took the helm in 2012’s Bourne Legacy, we thought that Matt was done. After rumors floated around about Matt wanting to do another one, Ben Affleck accidentally let it slip before Matt Damon confirmed. The film is set to be released sometime in 2016 so don’t get too excited yet, but keep your eye out for news about the film.

ant-man pic 25. Finally, I bring you some Marvel news to hold everyone over for a bit. If you happened to see Interstellar, you got another glance at the trailer for the new Avengers film and now we got a bit more news about Ant-Man. Paul Rudd will be starring as Hank Pym (Ant-Man) and it promises to be doozy. Cinema Blend even reported that it will probably be the most important Marvel film to date. This super-hero reigned in the 50s and 60s in the Marvel Universe which fills a void that we have not yet seen out of Marvel. Captain America ended in 1945 and Iron Man 2’s Stark Expo was in 1974 and we have nothing in between. This film is certain to fill the gaps while featuring Agent Carter and Howard Stark. News of the film is sure to creep on out soon as it will be released July 17, 2015.

Enjoy this week’s news and keep on the lookout for my review of Interstellar. Keep on exploring the movie universe.
